I just read that the CDC is set to come out with new rates on autism soon, possibly even this month, and rumor has it that they will be higher this time around, if this study of 55,000 Korean children is any indication.
Here are some take-aways we can probably expect:
- a push for the new standards on the DSM-V to limit the definition of autism because rates are “too high”
- a return to “blaming” parents. See this article on HuffPo “CDC: Autism, ADHD Rates On The Rise”, which states, “A shift toward having babies later in life, more premature births, and growing use of fertility treatments—all of which are risk factors for developmental disabilities—could be contributing to the higher rates, the researchers say.”
- more talk of how biomedical “cures” are nonsense (“see how many kids with autism we have?”)
Brace yourself, parents, things could get very ugly. Check out the Canary Party to protect parent’s rights. (I have joined yet, still considering.)
