Last year, I worked with a great vision care company, VSP. This company has real concern for the vision care of underprivileged and special needs children. And here’s a quote I can relate to:
With more than 60 percent of persons with intellectual disabilities not receiving an eye exam in at least three years, and one in three Special Olympic athletes suffering from an undiagnosed vision problem, VSP is launching a marketing/advertising campaign designed to increase both awareness about the importance of healthy eyes in persons with intellectual disabilities as well as support the Special Olympic Athletes in receiving this important health service.
Those numbers are high, and my kids too, are part of those statistics. In fact, Vision Care is the one coverage we do not have – and I just noticed Amelia mixing up 6 and 8 when we were doing addition.
To help remedy this, VSP Vision Care is aiming to donate 50,000 VSP gift certificates to Special Olympics International for free eyecare and eyewear services at VSP eye doctor offices, but they need your help! All you need to do is check out Special Olymics High Five and give a high five. It’s fun to do and even your kids can participate. Then you can use your social media to spread the word so an athlete with special needs can get the vision care they deserve!
