Three steps back, two forward?

I’m gonna level with you: it’s been a rough couple of days.  It wasn’t Halloween, or the Nor’easter, or my too-full plate.  It’s just that I lost sight of one of the most important things about this parenting gig: progress comes slow, super duper slow.  I was feeling quite bummed out last week over the dietary infraction (Zoe ate 2 half slices of regular pizza last week), and I thought it was a bad idea to both go to Hershey’s and trick or treat for Halloween.

I was feeling overwhelmed: Was it the right thing to get a cat, so riddled with toxins? Was Chris really not on board with the diet? Was I doing enough?  Why couldn’t I handle a stupid chart, or getting Zoe on the potty, or any one of a million things any other parent can do, like supplements and dentist visits, and reward charts? Why do I have to be the remedial student of parenting all the time?

Then came yesterday and I got not one BUT TWO calls from school.  Zoe ate a toy and Amelia bit a teacher.

Craptastic.

Maybe it’s the season, or a deficiency, or my diet, but I’m just down and I know I shouldn’t be and this put me over. For the first time ever, I didn’t like Halloween or even want it to come.  It was fine, Zoe did well and Amelia forgot about the candy by the next morning. (Wow!)

There’s also another reason, perhaps.  While a big birthday looms next week, and a big change just happened (quitting my job), bigger changes are coming, really big, like what I’m doing with this blog, and dietary changes and big leaps in faith steps.  (More info coming, I promise!)  All the changes are possibly, just maybe, a little bit SCARING THE CRAP OUT OF ME.  It’s time, though, for me to step out and start being all the things I’m supposed to be, and these changes will get me there.

But enough about me! The fact is, the kids are doing well. Zoe is still doing well in school, even playing with other kids a little, and wearing her sweat jacket at least outside.  And sleeves!  Amelia is progressing too, although we’ve had some setbacks with her not wanting to do school work. (Oh how every typical of her, lol!)  We did some puzzles on our day off and she’s really improving on that skill!  There’s more, like today Zoe looked at our cat and said, “C-A-T”.  Previously, I’d only known she could spell guitar, drum, tuba (thanks WordWorld) but a new word is fantastic.

OH and she lost her first tooth this week, and it was NO biggie. (We do MASSIVE FAIL with things like Tooth Fairy, so forget it.)  An awesome holiday looms ahead, and I’m excited. peace out folks, I’ve got to get to sleep!
