Ah my favorite time of year – when I release my gift guide full of toys just for the kid with special needs! Without further ado, here are some of the toys my kids have loved this year that have really engaged them.
Sensory Friendly Toys
Sarah Silk’s Enchanted Playsilks
These are a wonderful treat for a child with sensory needs! Read how much Zoe loved them. You can buy them at Wild Mint, which carries LOTS of nontoxic toys (even the dyes are safe) and is running a special discount of 10 off orders over $75 with the code: WILDMINT through 12/31/14.
Cat Paw
Zoe really loved this toy! This is also a great toy for kids who love cats but may not treat a cat too safely.
The WUBBLE Bubble Ball
I won’t lie. Kids can be pretty rough on the WUBBLE Bubble Ball and it can pop fast. If you follow all the directions for blowing it up, and teach your child to use it gently, it DOES provide a ton of fun. Zoe adored this gift.
Toys That Teach
Wild Kratts Toys
You already know I love the show “Wild Kratts” for how well it engages my animal-obsessed children. I even used their website to help my daughter with her beaver diorama and report. She loves the Createrra truck and walks around every day, talking about her “creature power” disks!
ThinkFun Zingo
One of the few games I can get Amelia to play with me, Zingo helps my girl learn how to tell time.
Building Toys
It’s not just LEGO and Mega Bloks that shine in this category!
Tinkertoys
Tinkertoys actually got Amelia motivated during this long, hot summer.
K’NEX
Zoe uses her K’NEX so much we can’t keep them in the box.
Goldie Blox
Yes, those are Goldie Blox pieces you spy amidst the K’Nex. Zoe loved the sample set we got at Blogger Bash so I’m considering getting Goldie Blox and The Spinning Machine as one of Zoe’s gifts.
Littlest Pet Shop Style Sets
The Littlest Pet Shop Blythe Bedroom Style Set was such a hit that it’s one of Zoe’s gifts. It’s just a perfect combo of everything a kid like Zoe loves: building, pets, phone app. Totally recommend it!
Music Toys that Encourage Speech (Singing, Actually)
Disney Frozen Cool Tunes Sing Along Boombox
THIS is the one the kids fight over! Zoe got Disney Frozen Cool Tunes Sing Along Boombox for her birthday and they both love it. It can play MP3s as well as well as let your kid sing Frozen to her heart’s content. Sure, you may be sick of it but if it can entice a barely verbal child to SING and MEMORIZE lyrics, then I’ll take one of those! There’s also a Disney Frozen Singing Light up Microphone Zoe tested this summer, so I may grab one to alleviate the arguments…
Kidz Bop
Ok, but maybe you’re REALLY tired of Frozen music. No sweat. Another product we love that got our kids singing is Kidz Bop. Yes, it IS the same music we grown ups listen to sang by kids but for some reason, the kids like it better. And it keeps them happy on a car trip, which is a nice change from the peanut gallery sucking down our smartphones or complain. We love it.
What must have toys are on your child’s list this year?

What great ideas! I love that cat paw toy. It’s a little difficult trying to teach my son not to be so rough with the cat and dog. Pinning!
