I was compensated for this review; all opinions are my own.
The other day, Amelia played in the mud in her Mary Jane’s (the funky, durable, flowered-version that pass for them). They were too filthy to deal with so I left them outside. The next morning, Amelia was dressing for school and refused to put on her sneakers. She wanted her snow boots, but it was too warm. A mini-fit ensued and I let her wear the boots. (I do not “cave”. Zoe has a tantrum every school morning when she gets dressed, and both kids have fits when their hair is done. Therefore, on a school day at 8AM, snow boots on a hot day are fine by me!)
I realized that maybe this was Amelia’s way of saying the sneakers no longer fit her. She did this with a pair of blue Mary Janes she had years ago. (OK, I adore Mary Jane’s. Have a pair myself. Deal.)
Which means it’s time to go shoe shopping. We’ve been avoiding this since we were unable to find snow boots for Zoe (we looked too late), who, sadly, only has one pair of shoes.
Maybe I should be grateful Chris is unemployed. If he had a job, we’d go on vacation and you know what that means: time to buy the girls sandals. Yikes!
Time for the torture of bringing two children who can’t stand having their feet touched to a store, having a salesperson manipulate their toes and say dumb things (“Oh, it doesn’t hurt honey!”) all while judging what a bad parents we must be. Then comes the extended wait for actual shoe, if they have it (most of the time they don’t have what we want), while the kids try to run out the doorless opening and get lost in the mall.
Should I buy shoes online? To me, shopping for shoes online sounds like a dream – but scary!

with 2 daughters and a limited income I usually shop at thrift stores. I am lucky that there are several in my area with decent offerings. I usually base my next purchases on the girls’ current shoe sizes, and at $3-8 a pair I feel okay about a mistake purchase here and there. And with 2 daughters, i am hoping that each pair will have at least one happy owner. Best of luck!!

Hi Maia, that is a great idea! There is Ross around here, but they don’t have much selection. But wow, I have to start shopping at Goodwill. They closed the one that’s near me, but there is another I heard is quite good. Thank you!

Well, making sure they fit is the run! I’d like to buy sketchers online, because I can coupons for those, and I’m looking to replace a pair I once had so I know the size! But I’d be nervous for the kids and brands.
