Lessons in Parenting: good things and more work for mommy

This was a very good week for my girls! First of all, Zoe got approved for Friday speech therapy starting 2 weeks from today. That gives her 5 days a week of outside commitments, until the end of the school year, and for a little while in the summer if it works with our schedule and if she gets accepted into the autism camp we’ve applied for. My sitter is good to take her, and I have Fridays off in the summer, so yay! In addition, we were watching SuperWhy yesterday and when Princess Presto asked “what letter makes the lll sound”, she knew it was “L”. Then what make the soft o sound, she knew it too – and that’s a hard one!

Amelia got a report card, and it was very good. They don’t do A’s and B’s, but while her levels were not always great, they wrote two whole pages of how great she’s doing. Plus we have an invention to make and she did half the steps of working it through. Very very proud! She’s doing fantastic at their morning meetings and will come home, hold out her hand, and say, “Hello, I’m Amelia, what’s your name?” I am SO thrilled we are sending Zoe to Seven Gen in the fall, I have a good feeling!

On the other hand, I’ve been dropping the ball with all the other work. Homework for Amelia can take sometimes a half an hour, so it’s tricky to fit in other things. I know I keep failing on the daily reading, and they’ve asked me to count with her daily and do site words. YIKES. So much work and running the class there was no time for it. However, between when I get out of work and Chris gets home, this is a really good time to do this stuff. I’ve been turning off the TV more, which actually inspired a game of tossing the ball – believe it or not, it was Zoe’s idea! So, we’ll see how that goes, as that 4-6 period is really hard for me.

Chris get a fantastic job, too, and my class was a hit. Things are going so great, I just have to say God is good! I’m savoring, I know it doesn’t always last.

Good things are coming, and I’m excited. I have to trust, let go, and do my best, and that brings all kinds of good stuff in.

I am happy to hear your girls are doing well. My son did not speak when he was younger, and he also had to receive speech therapy. Now he’s in Kindergarten, talking and reading. I know it’s hard right now but the therapy helps. Some advice try to make your daughter say what she wants, even if you know what she wants. That will force the words out. I pray all goes well. Take care.

Thank you so much Liz! Yes, we do that but she is conservative with her words, using them mostly when she’s comfortable. Her kindergarten program in September will employ responsive classroom and hopefully will encourage her to be more vocal, as we do!
