Kids Will Be Kids, But Teens Will Be Something Else…

parenting special needsWell, it’s so nice to be back home AT LAST now that vacation is over. I know this post is late, but I thought I’d catch up you on what I learned this week:

Kids can be *exactly* the same age, but if one is in puberty and the other is not, they will act different.

VERY VERY DIFFERENT.

As you know, Amelia has been in puberty for (ack) a year and a half, or at least that’s how long since the first glimmer of a sign. On vacation, we met up with some friends we love, and their oldest is the same age as Amelia but maybe not in puberty yet. When my friend told her daughter “no,” she acted exactly like a kid…typical “why not” and unhappiness.

But when I tell Amelia “no”? She gets angry, moody, stomps her feet, and grumbles.

Yea, that. Just like a teenager.

Awesome.

Anyway, I spoke with her homeopath tonight  and we are going to support that better. The girls had an amazing time, although Amelia – at 10 – is suddenly “too old” for movie rides and only wanted coasters. And yes, had teen ‘tude the whole time about 4D rides. Well, until Transformers and then…bless her heart…she asked to ride Despicable Me a second time.  So not SO grown up yet, but hoo boo, pray for me.  Moms and teenaged girls…you know the old saw.

And I’m due all I get, I was TERRIBLE to my mom between 13-18.  Just HORRIBLE. Yikes…

In other updates, Zoe has figured out how to push off and swim backwards, and we were rewarded with the wonderful site of both my kids socializing with my friends’ kids and endless 4-girl leaps into the pool! Amelia also made another friend on Saturday & Sunday, and they were thick as thieves before we left, while Zoe swam to be alone, only to disturb the teenaged couple making out in the far side of the pool.

Hopefully, I WON’T have a post about my almost-teen making out for a long, long, loooooooooooong time.
