Halloween Recap: A good year

First, I want to say that this was A GREAT Halloween. The girls did fantastic. Amelia had a school party on Friday, dressed as a witch, and was raring to go the second she got to school. I took an extended lunch and attended the parade – which her class lead! She was right up front. Then I jumped in and helped out with the party, where she also had a great time.

In the evening, we went to the mall, where our dinner at Chick-Fil-A was the main attraction, especially to two elderly ladies at the next table, while Zoe alternated between strip-tease and melt-down the whole time! LOL, who cares, it’s Halloween! She managed to eat in between. Unfortunately, she was scared of any scary costumes and most of the shops ran out of candy by the time we got there, so we headed over to a gathering at a local friends’ house. Amelia did the bulk of her trick-or-treating here, and afterwards there was a fire pit, food & s’mores, and cide/hot chocolate. Good times.

Last night, we did our neighbor. First we had to collect signatures to get street lights installed. 4 years after living here, still no street lights – until last week, when they put 4 on our street…and returned the next day to rip them out. Wrong development, grrr. We thought we’d have light on Halloween!!

Anyway, Amelia was done EARLY… “No, I don’t want candy!!!” (To which I thought, Child, who are you and what have you done with my daughter???) However, Zoe shone last night. It was a struggle to get and keep her costumed, but once done, we were fine (though she refused to wear coat or hat). Her inability to feel the cold served her well…she did about 90 minutes (with breaks) of trick-or-treating. Proud mama was there to hear her say “Trick or Treat”, “Thank you!” and “Goodbye”…although all at the wrong times, but I’M not complaining! She had a blast and slept really late today.

On top of that, this was a first: all our candy WENT.  Is there anything worse than having leftover “give out” candy?  Anyway a fun time was had by all…and no, we didn’t manage to get a shot of  Zoe with her clothes.  Some things are just too challenging, even for me!
