This month, I’m going to be focusing on autism, but more about that tomorrow. So my lessons posts may or may not cover both the girls, for now.
Meanwhile, today I want to share my gratitude. It hit me as a friend was discussing her struggles, how blessed I am, with my children. And while we plow through the homeopathy and discover how it will change my kids, I’m happy with a number of things:
- Progress reports that really show PROGRESS, in some things anyway
- I’ve always called Zoe nonverbal, but truly she is not as I spoke with someone who clarified it for me. And it’s more than sounds she makes. She does say words, more every week, and can sometimes manage sentences. I’m grateful for that.
- While we are having some behaviors due to, I presume, homeopathy, I’m blessed that my kids are well-behaved mostly, are not aggressive or self-injurious, and can sit in a restaurant, enjoy a theme park, and attend events like movies and bowling. Not every kid can.
- My kids are extremely loving, and Amelia is also aware of apologies and forgiveness. It’s a lovely thing!
Life is good, even with the nutty stress going on, I can honestly tell you I thank God every day for my family. They are the joy in my life! Look, here’s proof. There’s my baby, enjoying her Easter craft AND wearing sleeves! Cool.

Beautiful post. It brought tears to my eyes cause I do not realize how God blesses everyone in mysterious ways. He strengthens us and just by reading your post it encouraged me and strengthened me. I was thinking of writing a post about my first week alone with a baby and toddler. Boy was it hard and challenging! Have a great week!

Oh Noelle, thank you so much!! Oh yes, I remember those baby/toddler days well, what a challenge. Please do write it!

LOL, well thanks Nicole, but truthfully, I wasn’t always this positive. I learned the hard way, from finding parents back in my early days of blogging who honestly didn’t know if their child would survive the year and then later, when MamaSpohr did lose her child. That really puts things in perspective for you. Yes, we think they’re adorable too! 🙂

Beautiful post! As parents we sometimes forget about all the positive things because the negative can seem so overwhelming at times. We all have to think, it could always we worse.

It’s true! I’m lucky to have all the blessings I do.

I like this post because you are showing that people should be thankful for their own progress and accomplishments and not worry about the accomplishments of others.

Thanks Janeane! You’re right – it’s part of living a good life that we need to stop comparing things to measure up to others. Often, we are right where we need to be.

Really nice post Gina, it’s incredible how our children shape us into the people we are (and will become).
