As long-time readers of this blog know, we are a very on-the-go family. We vacation a lot, eat out a lot, and visit interesting new places all the time. My job as a blogger helps us do that, and I’m really excited to have the kids attend their first basketball game next week with the Harlem Globetrotters! Amelia is a big basketball fan, and hopefully this will really appeal to her – she loved getting Knicks gear last week from a friend of mine, so I have to warm up on basketball myself! In fact, we are epic sports fans as well.
Soon enough, it will be spring and we’ll be checking out the Iron Pigs. Local minor league games are an awesome way to enjoy time with your family. Iron Pigs game features mascots, music, silly races, kid involvement – so much fun that I don’t have to worry about food. (I honestly don’t know if they have any gluten-free food there, but the kids have never cared.) If anyone in your family is a baseball fan, I highly recommend you go and check out minor league baseball.
For now, I’m excited about getting into basketball. It’s not a sport we normally follow, but Amelia and Zoe have shown enthusiasm for actually throwing the basketball. (And Amelia got a lovely pink & purple official basketball from one of her buddies for her birthday last week.) I have no idea what to expect from a Globetrotters game – except fun. I love that this team embraces kids and has kid camps too. Joining in the fun of watching a team complete, the pageantry of the music, and thrill of the crowd really makes our family buzz with fun and excitement. It’s a little more interesting than our usual movie trip, restaurant hop, and game center, and we all cheer – although even Chris at Yankees playoffs can’t even match Amelia’s sheer volume, and both girls have it DOWN when it comes to team enthusiasm, jumping, yelling, and general mayhem when teams do things. I’m happy to say Amelia is starting to figure out the teams and root appropriately, although it was quite adorable when she roots for ANYONE’s touchdown. Team spirit, eh?
