I’m so sorry that I’ve been too sick to even sit at my desk, but happy day – I’m better now! Here’s what’s going on in our lives as of late:
Change in Services
This is not some new cut back by the government (although it could be; some people in Washington and our state seem only too eager to rip services away fron children who desperately need them, guaranteeing the high likelihood of a difficult adulthood). It seems our wrap around services by Progressions have ended. The girls, who each have a one-on-one aide at school, have reached a point where wrap around was not doing enough for them. We’d lost our TSS requirement over a year a ago and had our lovely behavioral specialist, Adrienne, who last act was recent: ensuring that Zoe got her aide on the bus. (She can have a difficult time keeping on a seatbelt and has been known to pull into school walking around the back seat.)
It’s a fond farewell; Adrienne has been a champion and a hero for us, and the company was amazing. We’d been through some terrible companies and service providers (this makes me wonder about the qualifications to GET this job; our company screened applicants properly), but the services here always been great, and we’ve been able to turn to Adrienne over the years whenever we hit a road block. This makes me think back on past providers the kids outgrew and my own maturity as the mother of children with disabilities; I cried a lot when we lost in-home speech and OT, partially for the members who were like family, but partially because of my own terror of being “on my own.”
If you are at this point with your child, don’t worry. You will find your way and hit your stride, and work out what works for your kids and your family, I promise you. Hang in there, it gets better.
Victories
Last week saw Zoe actually go into the bathroom (when we weren’t looking), sit down, and tinkle. At least Chris thought he saw evidence of pee. I watched but had to play it cool too, like I didn’t notice. That was before I was sick, so no further joy on the potty issue, but I’m excited. Maybe the homeopathy? Which, by the way, I did completely wrong and continue to screw it up. But I blame the head cold 🙂
Illness
Amelia finally got sick, really and truly sick. The flu, I guess? Augh. I already have people telling me they are relieved they had the flu shot. Ok, great, but what about all the people who got the shot AND STILL GOT THE FLU? Anywho, she’s been asleep for 3 days and hopefully able to get back to school on Monday.
That’s really it. Not much else to speak of since it’s been so quiet here. Well, at least for me 🙂
