I received tickets to Adventure Aquarium to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. First off, Happy Shark Week! This weekend, to ward off summer doldrums, we took a trip to Adventure Aquarium. You just KNOW Amelia was super excited about the sharks, but we love the penguins too – and the hippos were something to behold! Here are some of the highlights from our trip:
This guy greats you when you walk in, Just like a Sharknado!! (Yes, I’m obsessed.) Don’t forget – it’s Shark Week! All the more reason to go to Adventure Aquarium this week. Through 8/17/14, tickets are $15 for an afternoon ticket – check it out!
Amelia LOVED putting her head in the aquarium. I think she could have stayed there all day! Zoe liked climbing under, but freaked out when she put her head in!
Adventure Aquarium’s latest exhibit is the hippo. These guys appeared to be sleeping when we arrived, but you wouldn’t BELIEVE how massive they are! It’s easy to see that they are truly the 3rd largest land mammal on Earth. Even that big, these guys can run up to 19mph on land. Button and Genny are only teenagers at 13 and 17, but still consume nearly 40 pounds of food a day! Makes me feel better about how much my kids eat, lol.
Jellyfish are always just so beautiful and majestic! The kids love it, but I could stay in that section all day.
I love eels too. He was behind glass, so it’s hard to give you a good idea of how HUGE he was – I mean, he was really big!
No funny stuff this year! The girls pet the shark as told, and were really excited to do it. Had to drag them away but they loved touching the fish.
Here is my girl combining her 2 passions: photography and sea life! I loved how fast they swam, how much fun we had checking them out.
Look, it’s Crush! Actually real sea turtles are quite majestic and stately.
I saved my favorite photo for last. That’s Amelia and the diver, but I had a shot that went blurry of exactly the same thing with Zoe. It was something to see her pressed hand to hand with the diver. She was not the least bit afraid but so excited and happy. I LOVE this part of the aquarium the best! The diver took his time interacting with the kids too.
All in all, we had a fantastic day! After the aquarium, we walked the river drive all the way to near the battleship, then hit Manayunk for lunch.

Looks like such a wonderful time! I heard the hippos have a nice new home. I need to get us there before school starts.

It was fun, but I think the kids are getting past that age. We blew through it pretty quickly!
