This post is sponsored by Starkey Water who provided the mineralized water as well. All opinions are my own.
As I’ve written before, my workouts require every single ounce of my effort. Working out at a gym founded by veterans who use the military philosophy to train you is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it’s also one of the most rewarding.
High Impact Training For The First Time
Since I became a member in October 2017, the “boot camp” style of classes are have carved my middle-aged body into something beautiful, allowing me to lose weight in places I’ve never been able to before, all while my fellow classmates cheer me on.
You may think it’s crazy that working an hour of high-impact circuit training, sometimes cardio, sometimes weights, and sometimes both, would empower but it does. I’m 52 right now and starting menopause and in spite of that, I’ve lost weight in places I never could before, like my back, my butt, and my belly.
Well, that last one is going slowly but still!
This crazy exercise routine that I do 2-4 times per week has given me confidence, power, energy, and has alleviated the fatigue that I’d been feeling for months.
Bottom line?
You’re Never Too Old
It proves that you’re never too old to be the best you can be.
That’s kind of like Starkey Water. This amazing brand of mineralized water has been carbon dated to be – get this – 11,000 years old! That’s before Christ, before Cleopatra, even before those guys depicted in the movie “300” fought!
Starkey’s mineralized water comes from 2.2 miles deep down in the Earth, is made by Mother Nature, and is sourced from a spring in Idaho.
Starkey’s High Alkalinity And Mildly Mineralized Water
So what’s so great about this ancient water? Starkey features a high alkalinity of 9.6 pH and contains beneficial minerals, such as silica. The fine folks at Starkey Water sent me some samples of their product to try.
So as I sit here literally on water drinking challenge, I’m going to share all about Starkey’s mineralized water.
Yes, I”m on a water challenge, to drink half your body weight in water every single day.
Half!!
Do you drink enough water? I’m willing to bet you probably don’t. I know I don’t. Unless I’m going to the gym, I will go a whole day without water! I wish it were as easy to drink water as it is on workout days.
Benefits Of High Impact Training – And The Down Side
All that hard, hard work is not without some true sweat and exhaustion. I’m red as a beet when I’m done, and I look forward to nothing better than getting home and popping open a bottle of Starkey’s mineralized water to rehydrate. It tastes great and it cools me down after a challenging workout.
But here’s the thing:
Hard work WORKS over time. High-impact workouts might not be for you but don’t knock them until you’ve tried them (with your doctor’s clearance of course). I never thought they were for me, but I love them.
Here’s what’s improved on me:
- First, my thighs got BEAUTIFUL because my trainer is INSANE for squats. Forward, reverse, jumping, with ropes, sideways even…ugh. But worth the amazing compliments from my husband.
- Then, I lost back fat. BACK FAT. I thought that was with me for life… I mean I had it for DECADES, especially after my babies came.
- About 2 months ago, I noticed my obliques looked better. “Oblique” is one of those “huh?” fitness words. They are the muscles in your midchest to the left and right sides…not under your arm, but halfway there. Hard to reach, hard to work out, but looks nice when you do.
The best part?
- I’ve been noticing my running getting better and then TODAY my trainer told me that my running improved and I was…wait for it…
FASTER!!
I have never ever been a fast runner! I’m the gal they picked LAST in high school when it was time to team up. But with a lot of dedication and hard work, I’ve done it even though it’s taken 9 months to get that compliment.
But there’s a catch.
I’m exhausted and flushed every single time. The first day I felt like I was going to keel over…and so thirsty! What I desperately need during and after class is simply the stuff of life: WATER!
Starkey’s “Old” Mineralized Water
Good thing I got to try Starkey Water. It was the perfect compliment to fill up my stainless steel water bottle. And drink it I did.
Good things like getting faster and stronger take time, just like those 11,000 years it took to create Starkey water. It’s sourced from Starkey Springs, a place people have been visiting since the 1800s first discovered by Native Americans. Later, settlers came for the mineral-rich waters from near and hundreds of miles away.
The water came from the rain and snow that fell on the local mountains all those centuries ago, then made its way into the earth through a 2.5 million-year-old volcanic formation. Thousands of years of heat and pressure forced the water back up through cracks and fissures, untouched by surface contamination. That water is pure and lightly mineralized. My family loved its smooth taste and I love how it makes me feel after a tough workout.
They sent me samples but I have to admit that both my picky husband and my finicky daughter enjoyed drinking Starkey’s mineralized water too so that’s proof it tastes refreshing. Fortunately, my local Whole Foods Market carries Starkey Water so I never have to run out. You can also buy it at Amazon Fresh.
I LOVE that they use glass bottles. They do offer plastic bottles too but they don’t use any nasty BPA. They also encourage you to recycle your glass bottles in creative ways.
So whether you are going to a high-intensity gym or boot camp, taking a low-impact route, like yoga or barre, or still trying to find the motivation to work out, lightly mineralized Starkey Water is here to keep you hydrated, refreshed, and satisfied.
What do you think? Want to try?
