As you know, here in the states, Monday was Columbus Day. However you feel about Christopher Columbus and his treatment of the indigenous people, kids are still off from school. So I got to sleep in on Monday morning. That said, however, the girls did not sleep as late as I’d typically hope.
Normally, I would be upset by this. “Augh! There goes my me time!” or “Grrrr, I hate holidays!!”
But NOT this time. This time, I was only too happy to make the morning French toast, I even whipped up some eggs for Zoe. There was this peaceful, morning feeling. I don’t even think we had cartoons on. I took my time, as we waited for the sitter, and just enjoyed the children. Memories of cozy mornings with my babies before I was a working mom came back to me. Snuggling a wrapped infant. Dancing with both my girls til my arms hurt. The first time Zoe and Amelia laughed together back in my old kitchen. Perfect. Bliss.
I am a realist, though, mostly, and I remember that the stay-at-home mom life was not idyllic as it sounds. It was hard, painful, and lonely. Work is sanity, for me. But oh, the times with my babies when I wasn’t a wreck were complete heaven.
Just sayin’…
