It’s chilly but Zoe has her Halloween costume to keep her warm for a quick game of ball!
Fall is coming and it’s chilly! But that’s ok, my kids don’t mind – they’ll play outside any time of day. One of the benefits of attending a school that believes in lots of outdoor play is that it regularly gets the kids outdoors, which is perfect since they are a 2-minute walk from a mountain trail. We had a blast on this hike last fall:
I joined Zoe for this mountain hike last year.
They don’t think much about it – they just go! They’ll never say no to playing on a swing set as long it isn’t raining – whether it’s hot, cold or snowy!
So while waiting for Halloween festivities, Zoe is perfectly happy to toss around a ball. And we are blessed to have a wide expanse of yard that the kids can endlessly run around in:

plus a park right down the block to play in.
She’s a fearless climber.
Giggling? Sour taste in mouth? Squinting in the sun?
And we’re always set for those winters when we get dumped on with LOTS of snow

We also live near a fish hatchery with its own pond.

There really isn’t any excuse not to get your children outside most days of the year. We are lucky to have a big backyard and spirited children who can make the most of any play area.
Last year we did the Strasburg train ride and Zoe found the play area!
We had to PULL HER AWAY to get her on the train …which she equally loved!
Outdoor play, too, is a great way to get your children off the tech – so don’t keep them couped up just because it’s not a breezy 60 degrees day! This fall has been relatively mild and we’ve already taken our girls to New Hope once and to the Scarecrow Festival in Peddler’s Village twice. These walk-around areas are great fall activities and have lots of stops to shop or eat at. We’ve been pumpkin and apple picking as well!

What do we have lined up for the winter? Well, it’s just not Christmas without a walk around Manhattan. We’ll take the kids to see the Christmas Tree in Times Square, the big toy stores and skating in Wollman Rink.
Zoe doesn’t really feel the cold much so we can go lots of places with her. She is always engaged by the sights and sounds, even loves walking around Times Square, believe it or not. How will you embrace going outside during the colder months? Share with us your stories of winter fun!
