From autism, I have learned:
- The patience of a saint
- How to handle emergencies without losing it
- To drive with one eye on the backseat
- To fight for a quality inclusive education and services for my kids
- The upside of another political point of view
- To clean ANYTHING
- To give my family clean and actually healthy foods
- To care for other special needs parents
- To not judge parents or misbehaving kids I see in any situation
- To use my voice for good and for change
- To appreciate my husband for doing half the work of keeping us together
- To start to live more green and clean
- To appreciate every moment that’s good, happy, or calm
- To live more fully
- To forgive more often
- To hope for the best that’s yet to come
- To lean on God for my sanity
- To have more faith
- And a drop of biochemistry
I still hate autism. I still will try to improve my kids. I still hope for the day I can say, “Thank you Lord that autism has been Defeated in Zoe’s life” even if defeat means she still has it but can function.
And in case you’re wondering, yes, it’s been that kind of day.

I love it. So, so true. And not just any parent would appreciate this list or have a list this extensive 🙂 I especially love, “to drive with one eye on the backseat.” 🙂
