I received samples of these products as a member of Glutino’s Very Important Gluten-Free Blogging Community, all opinions are my own.
I know lots of master bakers, but to date, I am not one of them yet. However, I’m keeping an open mind, and working hard to learn from my mistakes. November and December’s Glutino products have taught me a great deal!
Failures
Pie is hard. I mean, difficult. For someone who is challenged by muffins, it’s nearly impossible! And I started on this too too late. The day before Thanksgiving, my plan was to make dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free chocolate pudding pie. Oy. I used a recipe for the pudding I’d used before which contained avocado, but I used regular instead of Haas like last time, thinking it would be milder. WRONG. We essentially ended up with chocolate guacamole. I also tried to whip coconut milk into a nice stiff frosting WRONG. It simply melted into the pudding. And I thought I would be clever, and 1/4 the recipe to get enough. WRONG. Next time, I’ll make the whole package!
So the best part about this was the crust – Glutino’s Perfect Pie Crust was just that and tasted delicious. I made a too small crust on Wednesday, which we crumbled and used as an EXCELLENT topping. Then I had to crank it out another on Thursday morning before we hit the road, which made a sturdy shell. On the upside, Zoe ate most of it, and I felt good that she was getting her load of healthy fats!
Note: This product may contain soy, but it’s not an ingredient and wasn’t enough to trigger any reactions from my kids
The Backup Plan
Of course, there are days when there simply is NOT enough time to make it all. Glutino also has you covered with a backup plan: Peppermint Yogurt Covered Pretzels. They are incredibly festive for this time of year, and so so so good. How good? My daughter consumed 3/4’s of a bag, lied about it, hid them, and ate the rest – within 20 minutes. She is NOT supposed to eat dairy and suffered allergies all week. But I *did* manage to try one and they were awesome!
I’m sure they’d look gorgeous on a Christmas plate, but I won’t know until I buy them myself, lol!
Note: They are gluten-free but contain soy, milk and coconut.

Yes, the cookies – best product so far. And the pie crust tasted good! Usually with or without gluten, basic crust tastes like cardboard 🙂

I haven’t tried Glutino yet, I think. Unless I tried their pizza crust. I remember a slightly different color to the box.
My dd7 has a birthday next week. I may try the sugar cookie dough and see how that goes.

Gina B says
Yes, but that’s because there’s more demand with allergies and Celiac on the rise.

I like the fact that you share your failures and your successes. It will help give other bakers to be more confident if something doesn’t work out.

Thanks, Janeane! It makes me feel better too, like this is NOT impossible, just challenging. And who knows? Maybe one day I’ll master it!
