Ok, you may have noticed I added a new blog, Logorrhetoric, from my friend Katrina, but you just have to go there and read this post. It had me in stitches, but I keep forgetting my Livejournal login, so I couldn’t comment.
It made my last few couple of days seem sort of funny too. Really.
Dear friends from our old church came to visit on Friday. We were so psyched for that, but it almost was cancelled because Amelia spent the morning not eating and throwing up, not to mention the diarrhea. Poor kid looked like a holocaust victim by the time guests show up. I know this because when we went to check on why Amelia and our guests’ girls were so quiet upstairs, there appeared the 3 year old and my 4 year old BUCK NAKED. (Well ok, Amelia had her socks on.)
I know that this is the part where moderate parenting comes in so that you don’t give them body shame but you teach them it’s unacceptable…except that my friend and I were laughing too hard. It turned out that they simply wanted to play dress up with some clothes they couldn’t reach…
Amelia was better the next day, but her mood had not improved. On Saturday we took the kids to Carrabba’s. It wasn’t as much fun as we’d hoped and my stress levels were through the roof. As we were eating, Amelia got up and walked the length of the wing we were dining in by ourselves. She got to the back and I noticed a heavy door there. I wasn’t too worried, I figured the door was locked. Just then the hostess seated a couple. As they got halfway between Amelia and me, she opens the door and runs outside. I get up and run – only it’s OBVIOUS that these people have NO CLUE about kids, they seem amused that Amelia opened the door and disappeared and that they are blocking my exit. Ah, ha,ah hahaha, move it, people!!
I finally get out, to find that the door opens onto more parking lot and she’s standing in the first parking spot, screaming with joy at her freedom. This is fine too, because she’s ok but the trick is to grab her so that she does not run out into traffic, which I ensure by laughing with her, catching her, and THEN giving her hell. Yikes, is that awful of me or what?
For the rest of the day she was in a NASTY mood, as if she had her period or something, but at least the girls went to bed early. Sunday morning we rushed to make it out to the new Wesleyan church we’ve been attending, and that was fine – or so I thought till service was ended, I was making coffees, and Chris returned sourfaced, holding Amelia and a “note”. Oh man. We’ve only been attending 3 weeks and Ms. Thing decides to start biting kids again. She left a mark on the child apparently too. AUGH!! (I TOLD you she was in a bad mood.) Great. She hasn’t bitten anyone in MONTHS, I’m at a loss why this would suddenly start up again.
So we leave, still letting her know she was on warning, and one of the nursery attendents waves to Amelia who smiles and shouts “hello”. The attendent says, “Boy, what a change! Last time I saw you, you were screaming and yelling! lol…”
GREAT. I don’t know where all these discipline issues are coming from, but she’s been no better at home than in nursery. Lots of screaming and acting up. That day we had a part with small children to attend and I kept a hawkeye on her – which made her really angry.
Thankfully this is a school week followed by vacation and so even though her bad attitude is still aboundinig, I at least have some free time and she has some activities to wear her out. However, I COMPLETELY forgot until late last night about a major proposal I had to do – one I really wanted – that I had not even started yet. It was due today in Geneva, which is 6 hours ahead of us! AUGH! I feel like I made a billion mistakes in this proposal, but I really want it. It’s a nice LONG contract that partner and I are totally qualified for. So gotta leave it in God’s hands.
Needless to say, I was up late and awake early, nothing in the house got done, and I’m pretty wiped out right now. Zoe has been oversleeping and I should wake her up, but I know she had a little cold, so maybe she’s getting through it.
What on earth will I do when school ends???
