Nontoxic Kitchen Gift #2 – Blending: The Blendtec Blender

This section is sponsored. Ok, so you in a one solution item for special diet cooking that can do smoothies, juices, soups, Whole30 dips and more. My favorite tool? The Blendtec, for a few reasons. They have an excellent warranty – it’s easy and painless to replace parts and the techs know exactly what is wrong when you explain.

It’s also got a smaller base than some OTHER high powered blender models. It comes with a recipe book that tells you how to do specific things like chop grains or grind nuts. And it has LOTS of functions, unlike brands that only have two settings for their high price.

I have a Blendtec Total myself and it serves all my needs. I put it at top of this post because it goes from prep to meal with the following functions:

  • PREP: you can grind with i
  • COOK: it makes soup
  • HEALTHY MEALS: it is my smoothie master which I use a LOT of now!

Nontoxic Kitchen Gift #3 – for Cooking: Ceramcor Xtrema Cookware

For cooking, you’ll need to ditch the Teflon and all nonstick products. Now you have lots of options, of course, each with their own particular issues. For example, cast iron is popular but it rusts and needs to be periodically seasoned. Who has time for that? Definitely not me! And stoneware can be toxic, while glassware can be impossible to get clean. Just try burning tomato sauce on a glass pan.

That’s why I love Xtrema! The company sent me their most popular item, the Ceramic Versa Short Handled Skillet with Cover and I just love it. Easy to clean, quick and easy to cook with and it comes in gorgeous colors. It’s completely safe for oven, stove top and microwave. It also comes with silicone handle covers so you don’t have to go crazy looking for them, like some other “too hot to handle” pans. You must make sure you use silicone utensils to cook and serve and be gentle while cleaning- it is ceramic! The food comes out awesome and it’s a breeze to clean. And did I mention how pretty it is?

Nontoxic Kitchen Gift #4 – Slow Cooking: The Instant Pot

Ok, so it’s 5:00 PM and you forgot to defrost something. Again. And you just CAN’T do frozen pizza one more night. Those kids need nutrition! But you’re stuck staying up late, using your toxic microwave and praying you don’t accidentally cook what you’re defrosting, or running something under the water for an hour. It has a stainless steel interior and is safer than your traditional pressure cooker, but faster than that ceramic one!

Forget all that! What you need is an instant pot! Ok, I’ll admit I was lured by the promise of “7-minute spaghetti and meatballs.” That’s not exactly correct, but you can cook a pound of meat that’s still frozen in under an hour with your Instant Pot! The learning curve is steep but I recommend you jump right in and learn from your mistakes, then you’ll be a happy – and fast – slow cooker!

The Instant Pot comes in many varieties: 6, 7, 9 and 10- in – one! Which is perfect for you?

Nontoxic Kitchen Gift #5 – More Prep: OXO Good Grips 3 Blade Spiralizer

A spiralizer is a great way to teach your kids some basic cooking skills, encourage healthy eating and have fun doing it! The OXO Good Grips 3-Blade Spiralizer with StrongHold Suction has everything you need and is easy to care for. The suction means your device won’t slide while in the midst of spiralizing!

Nontoxic Kitchen Gift #6 – Mixing: The KitchenAid Stand Mixer

This is an amazing workhorse of a mixer! It will last forever, it is great for all your mixing needs. It comes in a variety of sizes, from the new 3.5 quart Mini Mixer, to the professional level mixers. It has a HOST of attachments available, from Ice Cream Maker Attachment to Pasta Roller & Cutter to Food Grinder. I have a 4.5 quart, but this year, you can buy a 3.5 mini, if your counter space and mixing purposes are small.

You can get the KitchenAid K45SSOB 4.5-Quart Classic Series Stand Mixer, Onyx Black.

Hi. I read on Tamara Rubin’s website that there is lead on the KitchenAid mixer attachments and that Beater Blade brand has some good ones. Do you know anything about this? Thank you.
