NOW Solutions Non Toxic Personal Care Products: Fixing Life’s Little Problems

Finding non-toxic personal care products for sensitive kids is a challenge in today’s market. And personally? This mama has had her share of breakouts and rashes as well! So when I was selected as a paid ambassador for NOW Foods during their #NOWWellness Campaign, I was thrilled to get a shipment of their products.

While I was MOST excited about the food, I was curious about their non-toxic personal care products – and even more, I was surprised to find they worked on life’s little problems! They are also clean, nontoxic solutions for moms like us to put in our toolboxes as we learn how to stay young.

Problem #1: Fleas, Ticks & Mosquitoes, Oh MY!

I hate bugs, but these pests are the worst – and this year, ticks may be out in higher numbers with more dangerous diseases. Since our cat, Bello sleeps with Zoe, and since she loves to bury her face in him, I cannot use standard chemicals to get our outdoor cat bug-free.

When Chris found a tick crawling on him 2 weeks ago, we both freaked out! Luckily, I found a great recipe on Facebook to spray on our kitty. Use 1 part water to 2 parts distilled white vinegar and add some almond oil – and lo and behold, that’s just what I got in my NOW Solutions package! I added NOW Solutions Organic Sweet Almond Oil to my formula, which helps repel fleas & ticks. The only tricky part was getting the cat to sit still!

You can also do a similar recipe for people with essential oils (a no-no for cats) to make it smell better. Finally, here is a great post on how to thoroughly check your child for ticks from Green Groovy Livin‘.

That, however, was not the only great use for it. My husband and Zoe came in one night, all bitten up by mosquitoes, who’ve been quite nasty these last 2 weeks in my backyard. So, he used the oil to soothe the skin of both of them and it worked like a charm. Their skin nice and smoothy, rather than puffy and jaggy from the bites. I also tried this on my face and it’s smooth and clean, not greasy at all! These are some great tips for Almond Oil that I’m keeping in my back pocket.

What I loved: Certified Organic, Expeller-Pressed, Hexane-Free. Food-grade but sold as a personal care product but that’s probably dangerous for me to know, I might cook with it! Soothing and 100% pure.

Problem #2: Dry Skin Patches

I hate this one! I get patches of nasty dry skin at the center of my hairline on my head in the fall and winter, but that’s not the worst one. I have a never-going-away patch on my right calf from years of crossing the same leg over and over. It’s subconscious, I have to catch myself to stop it. I tried using the NOW Solutions Vitamin D-3 Body Cream on this area and it smoothed it down, taming the scarred bump on my leg. This was the first time I had to literally HUNT for my dry patch. It’s not completely gone, but it’s suddenly barely visible. The skin finally feels somewhat smooth and soft!

This cream has a lovely orange scent and it’s not too greasy absorbing nicely into your skin. This cream contains 1000 IU of Vitamin D-3 per 1/4 teaspoon as well. This is the kind of non-toxic personal care product that can help with specific skin issues.

What I loved: Contains Certified Organic Aloe Vera. Paraben-Free. Gluten Free.

Problem #3: Split Ends from Blow Drying and Sun Exposure

I have NO good solutions for split ends and it’s especially difficult to find paraben-free hair products. Many of the standard “clean” products that I can afford leave my hair limp and lifeless, unable to have anybody or bounce when I style it. Ditto for my straight-haired kiddo, Amelia.

NOW Solutions Herbal Revival Shampoo & Conditioner Damage Control is, on the other hand, not only affordable but also is specifically formulated to help hair resist breakage from daily blowing. That’s definitely my hair, which gets even worse from sun exposure in the summer. It also gave my hair shine, body, and stylability. My husband even loved my hair! (Please note these products are not gluten-free.)

Problem #4: Fluoride Free Toothpaste that Works

My daughter has fluoride poisoning on her teeth from baby vitamins, and the dentist has warned us of products that contain it. I’m totally on board since they have added entirely too much of this toxin to our water supply as well. I’m always on the hunt for a great fluoride-free toothpaste, but they are hard to find and you wonder if they work. Xyliwhite Neem & Tea Tree Toothpaste, for me, is a priceless find!

First of all, my super finicky kids didn’t complain about the taste (for once). Secondly, I loved it – and so did my husband. Our teeth felt whiter and cleaner by the end of using it. This is the first time I’ve tried a product with Xylitol. In fact, it also had every other product that is good for your teeth and is not a neurotoxin (I’m onto you, fluoride), including:

  • Xylitol
  • baking soda
  • tea tree oil
  • neem

My husband was raving about it the other day and the kids are actually USING IT without whining. I have finally found a toothpaste my whole family can enjoy and live with!

What I loved: Fluoride Free, Gluten Free, SLS-Free, Paraben-Free. Really, I loved everything about this toothpaste!

I’ve really enjoyed the NOW Solutions non-toxic beauty health products. You should also know NOW Solutions products are not tested on animals – isn’t that awesome? They work to solve all these issues and I’m glad to finally have found personal care products that are non-toxic, work on a daily basis and won’t break my bank!

I am really interested in the flea & tick. My mom’s day can’t handle the leading brands with his allergies.
