Green cleaning – sounds impossible, right? It’s bad enough that it’s a struggle to get my toilet clean just from regular usage but with hard water? Good luck. Simple use builds up nasty pink outlines that are tough to scrub when you’re overwhelmed caring for your kids’ needs and regular cleaning has flown out the window.
When I met the fine folks at greenshield organic at ShiftCon, I loved their enthusiasm and knowledge of all things green. MaryBeth was kind and engaging and passionate about organic. Not only that, but they are the only USDA Certified Organic line of cleaning products – and that’s something I can get passionate about. Naturally, I wasted no time and signed up to try their products! greenshield organic’s Toilet Bowl Cleaner arrived some time later and I was even more intrigued.
You see, they care not only about organics but the environment too, which is why their bottles are made out of sugar cane – no toxic plastic bottles here! Even the most trusted green brands are still using plastic, at least for some products. Why sugar cane? From their site:
Standard plastic bottles are made from petroleum (the same stuff that eventually powers your car!) and deplete the environment of precious resources, including clean air to breath. Every pound of petroleum-produced resin (plastic) emits 1.83 pounds of harmful carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the primary gas that contributes to global-warming greenhouse gases. Instead of contributing to the increased presence of carbon dioxide in the air, we’ve chosen to use sugar cane to make our bottles. Sugar cane is actually a carbon dioxide-depleting resource because every pound of sugar cane-produced resin (plastic) actually captures 2.15 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Yup, they really do care about the environment at greenshield, but I was worried. I mean, limestone in my water – yikes. Could I really get my toilets clean with their product?
The answer is a resounding “Yes”! The toilet got clean and sparkly, which is not half bad for fully organic ingredients. No nasty smell, and no worries that my kids are placing their delicate tushes on something, well, crappy. Using their store locator, I was happy to learn that I can get greenshield products at my local Wegman’s.
greenshield products are also ICC certified organic, have the Eco Cert label and are certified Cruelty Free as well. Safe, effective and good for the planet and its inhabitants, I recommend you try greenshield products for kitchen, bath and laundry. They even carry a commercial collection.
