I received this product to review; all opinions are my own.
Lunch is a big deal for my kids. Not only are they voracious eaters*, the break is welcome after a long morning of school! They work hard, too. Zoe this year has been showing that she can multiply 3 digits by 3 digits IN HER HEAD! And Amelia has been learning probability and working on presentations.
But packing lunch can be a dangerous feat. Take a look at all the toxics items that can be found in the average child’s lunch:
- Plastic products full of BPS, BPA, obesegens, phthalates
- Aluminum, from tin foil but also cheap containers and utensils
- Neoprene is also questionable, although it is marketed as sustainable
- Melamine was also found to be toxic and is found in some plates and paper products
- We feel that food grade silicone and PEVA are safe, but not everyone agrees
Wow! So what’s a concerned mom to do? Go with the best source: stainless steel and make sure it’s the best.
Kangovou does just that. Their stainless steel food storage systems are made from quality food-grade, Type 304, 18/8 stainless steel.
Say what now?
You need food grade stainless steel of a particular specification to be the safest. According to Lenntech.com,
It has a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, combined with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is defined as a Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy.
All this means is that this is the most commonly quality stainless steel used, it’s more resistant to corrosion, tough in low temperatures and easy to clean. Kangovou stainless steel containers are naturally anti-bacterial and don’t leach materials. It doesn’t rust and can be put on the top shelf of your dishwasher.
Hm, maybe I should have started with the last one…”easy to clean” is top on my list of qualities for a nontoxic food storage products!
Kangovou containers give you a BPA, PVC,phthalate, lead and melamine free container to store food in for your child’s lunch box. The outer jackers are also BPA, PVC and phthalate free.
The Kangovou line also comes in soft, pretty colors and has options of cereal bowl, compartment plate, flat plat, sippy cup and snack bowl, or buy a whole set!
The only thing I found was that the flat tray was a little heavy. Not much, just a tiny bit, but other than that, I loved these containers!!
*They’ve always eaten like this. You can totally tell when they are sick because suddenly the eating stops. No worries, I keep my house stocked with organic produce to fill them up!
