Welcome to the Ultimate Blog Party 2013

UBP-2013_500pxWelcome to the 2013 Ultimate Blog Party, hosted by 5MinutesforMom.com!  As usual, I’m late to the party, but I’d like to introduce myself and my crew:

gina badalatyThat’s me on the right, blogger, writer, autism and Down syndrome advocate, homeopathic mom, gluten-free cook, and WordPress enthusiast. Been blogging since 2002, if you can believe it, and I love it. My dream is to write a novel but I’ve been stuck in a low gear on that.

I love people, love to network, and hope to meet some great friends here.  I’m also a former web designer, and an avid reader of fiction, plus a big scifi fan.

Growing up

Growing up

Next up is my firstborn, Amelia, who inspired me to kick off this whole blogging thing when she was born.  She is a fighter, independent, has a heart of gold, and can make anyone laugh.  If you’re down, she will come over, hug you, and tell you it’s going to be ok – the heart of an enourager!

Yes, this is an old photo, maybe 2  years ago, but I couldn’t resist, just look how beautiful she is here!  See that smile?  That’s her signature.  And, if you think you know Down syndrome, Amelia is the anti-stereotype.  Almost nothing in the “typical symptoms” fits her.  Love that kid!

zoe031312Amelia brought us so much joy, that we had another girl (like we wanted) a few years later, Zoe. She is 7 and doing great in the 1st grade.  Autism never gets this kid down, she is happy about 90% of the time, and starting to interact with her peers on a very regular basis!  She loves to be read to, loves to sing (prefers Chipmunks and Cinderella), adores “Cars”, and is great at puzzles and problem solving.  She’s also a super-cuddler.

Behind the scenes is Chris, who supports and protects this family for 20 years.  He’s a great dad, and my love, and we couldn’t do it all without him! xoxoxo baby

Finally, we have Bello, the world’s most patient cat, who never ever extends his claws or bites the girls, despite the torture.  :)  We thought he was a girl until the vet told us otherwise!  Amelia loves to baby him, and Zoe is enthralled with his tail.  I love that he sleeps with Zoe as much as he can, it’s great.

That’s us, looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi Tara! I’m guessing if you suspect it, he may have! The diets will help. The gluten-free focus is kind of new…been leading up to that, but I’ll be posting more on this. I’m not much of a cook, but I do my best, and I think that’s going to be the focus! Your blog is great too, nice to meet you.

Hi Cathi, welcome! Oh, I’m always late :) My antidote is my “so early we have to help set up” husband, but he can’t help me on blogging, lol. Nice to meet you, checking out your blog!
